Re: 3.8.1 TV Show listing order wrong
FWIW, I've noticed the same issue since the 3.8.1 update.
Since the update, when I look at a series for the first time, the sort order appears to be random and default to Playlist. Changing that to Episode corrects the sort order. If you change back to Playlist, the order stays correct.
It's a bit annoying. Yesterday I inadvertently watched ten or fifteen minutes of the last episode of "True Detective" because it was listed first. (I'm a bit old, so it took me some time to realize that something was amiss.)
Note that this is from a Plex server. When I look at the same series on Plex via the web interface or a Plex application, the order is correct.
It's not a huge deal unless you're as lame as I am and fail to notice that the sort order is wrong.

One more thing….
Sorting no longer ignores articles (like "the") even though that option is still enabled.

This bug significantly impacts "non expert" users (wife, kids).
Hate to do it, but this has been around for 30 days, so we have to switch to another media player until it gets fixed.
As others have mentioned - it is very easy to watch the wrong episode and ruin a story line. A *HUGE* problem for a media centric application.

My ShieldTV just updated to 3.8.1 and notice that the episodes list in TV Shows is now defaulting to playlist rather than title. So this now means the order is all over the place. I can hit the arrow right and change the sort by option to either name or episode and then the order is fine. But this only changes it for the season I am in.
This has only started doing this in this latest update. It is not realistic to manually change this option for every season of every TV show in my library. So can you please undo whatever change has been made so that episodes are listed in the correct order.

Re: 3.8.1 TV Show listing order wrong
HI,
I have a similar issue related to those above. I keep all my movies in folders A-Z. Up until recently they would appear the same as in Windows Explorer. Strict alphabetically. Now they appear in the order of the filename within the folder(punctuation dependent) and not the folder itself. This has just started happening since the last update. I have it set to keep original filename, which it does, but just orders them "incorrectly"
Thanks for looking into this.

Re: 3.8.1 TV Show listing order wrong
This is happening to me as well. I have a Plex Server in the backend, and it shows the correct order in its web app and on the android tv app as well. However, MrMC messes up some of the collections' and shows the incorrect order as the OP was mentioning.
This doesn't happen everywhere but only in some of the folders. In this particular one, the episodes' file is in the format: seriesname - 1x01 - episodename.avi
I'm happy to change the filename string pattern if it'll help solve the problem.
Thanks
Cheers

3.9 should have fixed this issue.
