This is a real basic question; sorry for starting a new thread.
I am trying to connect MrMC on ATV4 to a remote share on my iMac.
I go to add a source and can't seem to get it done.
On the iMac side, I have SMB sharing on (and have connected Infuse on ATV4).
On MrMC side:
I selected Windows File Sharing (SMB) - and I get an Error 2: share not available.
If I manually enter an SMB site "smb://192.168.1.2" with proper username and password - I get - "operation time out"
Any ideas on how to connect to a remote share on the same network?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again
Any mention of illegal streaming sites, addons or any pirated material will not be tolerated. This is not democracy and any offenders will be banned and posts deleted immediately without warning.
Other than that, we hope you enjoy MrMC so far and we welcome any input and feedback you might have.

You need to use an app on your iMac called SMBup
You will open it up and add the drives you want to share and press start.
You will then see it in MrMC

Thanks! That did the trick. I'm surprised that MacOS implementation of smb/samba is so poor.

Re: Basic question about SMB
Kodi / MrMC don't support Apple's flavor of SMB (which debuted in OS X 10.7) but they have said they plan to add support for it.

use this instead much easier to setup and faster http://www.johnlarge.co.uk/2012/06/26/o ... -xbmc-fix/
or this guide for SMBup http://www.tweaking4all.com/os-tips-and ... x-smb-fix/

Re: Basic question about SMB
I just purchased and installed MrMC last night (it's fantastic) and used SMBup to access my video files. I have a solid WiFi connection and SMBup is installed on my iMac (running El Capitan) and it is working.neg0shEAte wrote:use this instead much easier to setup and faster http://www.johnlarge.co.uk/2012/06/26/o ... -xbmc-fix/

I probably shouldn't mess with my setup, now that it's working, but I see that the first link above is for an alternate system: utilizing NFS instead of SMB for sharing files. I'm intrigued by the statement that it's faster. Can others confirm that is the case? Is it "better" in any other ways over SMBup?
Also: The article linked to above for NFS set-up is from 2012. Do those instructions still apply now for Apple TV 4, El Capitan and MrMC?

Re: Basic question about SMB
I know at least that NFS isn't what OS X uses and if you want to use it you either need third-party software or get into typing terminal commands.
This article below says NFS was not designed for home networks:

Re: Basic question about SMB
Can you confirm that you used that 2012 guide (http://www.johnlarge.co.uk/2012/06/26/o ... -xbmc-fix/) and it worked properly for sharing of files to MrMC?neg0shEAte wrote:you don't need to type shit muchless open terminal lol.. this kid just went google NFS without looking at the guide i post hahahaha
