no quality lost and they're both lossless.hellmaker wrote:So when i want to have DTS-HD or TrueHD inside my AV i have to use a bluray player with a classic bluray disc?
This thread sound to me like : No there will be no HD sounds.....
Whats the point of having MultiPCM (i guess its still 7.1 channels?) instead of real DTS-HD or TrueHD?
Will there be a quality lose when the DTS-HD in encoding inside Kodi into PCM?
For me both formats, DTS-HD and PCM, are loseless?

So why is there a need to decode the HD audio inside my AV ????
Will my Onkyo do better job than the Kodi decoder ????

If compressed audio is passed to your AVR then it must decode. But, the Fire TV can't bitstream HD audio - DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD.hellmaker wrote:So why is there a need to decode the HD audio inside my AV ????

So, to take advantage of those nice audio tracks you must decode with MrMC and output as PCM.
Whether or not your Onkyo can do a better job is moot - it can't receive the HD audio from the Fire TV due to Fire TV limitations (not MrMC limitations)

Re: DTS-HD and DD True HD passthrough...and Weather..
Mhhh i´m not sure about this.
Yes right now its moot because its not working. But it can be done with other hardware like i.e. nvidia shield
The question is: will it improve my life having HD sound decoded inside my AV receiver? I´m not sure about.
Another thing is that FireTV is able to play DolbyDigital Plus (which mean 7.1 channels) to my AV when watching movies from amazon.
But i think this not not a HD sound?!
Maybe the FireTV is not a suitable hardware for enjoying high quality sounds............

Re: DTS-HD and DD True HD passthrough...and Weather..
So to clarify, no matter what the format of the audio on the source file (eg: DTS, DTS-HD, DD True HD), the FireTV just cannot handles these formats, so they need to be transcoded to for example 6 channel (5.1) PCM?cosmoxl wrote:So, to take advantage of those nice audio tracks you must decode with MrMC and output as PCM.
And that PCM format is basically just the audio decompressed/converted into (for example) 6 channels of audio?
And I guess the bigger question is, if we take a DTS source, how much difference to the resultant output in say a 5.1 speaker output would it make between the Amazon FireTV converting it and pushing it out in PCM, or the receiver having been fed the original DTS track?

Re: DTS-HD and DD True HD passthrough...and Weather..
It seems that the firetv cant handle those formats.
In Kodi v17 beta 5 you dont even have a dts passthrough and ofc also no HD passthrough.
In MrMc you will have at least DTS passthrough (not DTS HD).
I asume that a high quality AV receiver will do a much better job when decoding a HD audio than Kodi/MrMc will do this. But i have no facts to proof this.
So but whats the problem?
Nvidia shield has no problem with passthrough all those HD audio standards and it also running on Android.

Re: DTS-HD and DD True HD passthrough...and Weather..
MrMc on the Fire TV *can* passthrough DTS or DD. Just not HD audio codecs.
if you setup things to passthrough what you'll get on your receiver is the DTS core of DTS-HD. That's 5.1, and lossy compression.
but, if you decode in MrMC you can get "lossless" PCM at 7.1 (if the DTS-HD track is 7.1, of course)
Dolby TrueHD isn't required to have a "core" so most likely you'll have to either pick another audio track to passthrough or it'll decode the TrueHD track to PCM.
