I just tried the technique documented here for Kodi, using split RAR files to overcome the FAT32 4GB file size limitation on the Fire TV:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-play-fil ... e-in-kodi/
Long story short, it didn't work. Is it supposed to? My *.part1.rar and *.part2.rar files both copied over just fine in File Manager, but going through Videos/Files just shows an empty folder.
Thanks!

2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

pretty sure I've played split rar before but maybe they were in the other format .... .rar, .r02, .r03, etc.jbennett wrote:I just tried the technique documented here for Kodi, using split RAR files to overcome the FAT32 4GB file size limitation on the Fire TV:

Hmm, I'll look into that, thanks. Might be the difference between the "RAR" vs. "RAR 4.x" format options I had when creating it...cosmoxl wrote:pretty sure I've played split rar before but maybe they were in the other format .... .rar, .r02, .r03, etc.

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
Got it working. It actually works with either naming convention (*.part1.rar, *.part2.rar, etc. or the older *.rar, *.r00, etc.), but only with RAR v4 (and below, presumably) archives, not the v5 to which my app was defaulting.
Thanks for the input...

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
I'm having issues here as well. How do I know if I'm using RAR v4 or not? I've used versions 5.21 and 5.40 of WinRAR. When I go to archive, they give me "RAR" and "RAR 5" options. I've always used "RAR" which works with Kodi, but not MrMC.
However, RAR v4? I've googled this and really can't find any information on it. Do I need to use a specific version of WinRAR? Or another program? Thank you for any help!

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
The same code used in Kodi is also used in MrMC. So if it works in Kodi, it should also work in MrMC. A debuglog might show the issue.trademarc9 wrote:I'm having issues here as well. Yeah, it's confusing as hell. The RAR file format itself apparently went from v2.9 (introduced in WinRAR 3.0), to 5.0 (in WinRAR 5.0), at which point the previous v2.9 format became known as "RAR 4" (as it had been used, unchanged, in WinRAR 4.x).
Long story short, as long as you don't use RAR 5 format, you should be okay. To further confuse matters, different software distinguishes between RAR 4 and RAR 5 differently, with different defaults - WinRAR 5.x offers "RAR" (4, implied) or "RAR 5" (explicit), while RAR for Android offers "RAR" (5, implied) or "RAR 4" (explicit).
Hope this helps...

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
Thank you for the replies. It's just the weirdest thing. I've archived all of my movies in the same exact way. They all work flawlessly on Kodi, but only Finding Nemo works on MrMC. That's right, one movie out of dozens works and the rest don't, and I'm pretty certain I didn't do anything differently from one movie to the next.
If the issue persists, I'll have to grab the debug logs. I guess I'd get the logs for both a movie that works (Finding Nemo) and one that doesn't?

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
I'm still not having any luck, so here's my debug log. As mentioned before, Finding Nemo works and Iron Man does not.

All the best to everyone that's trying to help me.
P.S. To jbennett, thank you for the tip in this thread (http://mrmc.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=373) regarding the Fire TV. I wouldn't have located the log file without it.

Re: Are split RAR files supported?
Ok, looked at log, it's not a rar problem but something else. I even see the thumb being generated without problem. DVDPlayer opens the file, parses it, and starts demuxing for playback. Then...
ERROR: Action - thread DVDPlayer, Unhandled exception caught in thread process, aborting. auto delete: 0
This should never happen, it means there was some code exception, like a divide by zero or null dereference. The thread running DVDPlayer barfed and died.
How big is this file(s), I'd really like to get a copy.
