Synology SMB Stopped Working

Post by Mikron2 »

I've been using MrMc since it was first released on the AppleTV without issues. I had to mess with my SMB settings for some Time Machine troubleshooting today and it has since broken my playback on both my AppleTV 4Ks. I've changed the settings back on my Synology but I still can't get it to play or re-add the SMB. I've gotten error code 2, 4, and 6. My SMB settings should be good, I can use SMB from infuse and VLC without issue.

I've tried allowing SMB1, and SMB2 on the Synology. I have made sure to check Use libdsm for smb servers, and use libsmb2 for smb servers, I can see my iMac, MacBook Pro, and Synolgy all under SMB when I search but I can't connect to any of them. It won't connect when I try to manually put in the SMB share it freezes on a grey screen. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I've tried FTP, NFS but no luck with either of them. NFS I can get to my Videos folder on my Synology but can't get to the TV Shows or Movies sub folders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to use Infuse or Plex over MrMc :(

Re: Synology SMB Stopped Working

In case anybody runs into this in the future since there appears to be no dev support anymore here's what I ended up doing to fix it.

I saw in the Synology logs that the connection failed because NTLMv1 not permitted. On the Synology I made sure SMB1 was the lowest version and enabled NTLMv1 (neither are recommended for security) then forced MrMc to use SMB1 and it worked.

Odd thing is I've never had to do this in the past in all the years I've been using it and after upgrading to DSM 7 I had to check the libdsm/libdsm2 checks for it to start working again.

It's working for now but at some point if I can figure out how to get it working again with those checked without having to have NTLMv1 enabled I'll update.

Upgraded my nas also to newer model with latest dsm 7 version and had the same issue.
What fixed it for me was to go in MrMC into settings; in the MRMC section select services; select SMB client and there enable the option "Use libsmb2 for SMB servers". This adds support for SMB2 and SMB3 and allows to disable SMB1 on the synology.
