Siri Remote - how to make it work like native tvOS? (for Live/Recorded TV)

Post by speedmeup »

Hi,

I would like my Siri remote to work the way that it does for other tvOS apps (Netflix etc.)

I find it frustrating that so that if I pick up the remote and just touch the left or right of the trackpad in the process then my live TV in MrMC jumps backwards or forward. This doesn't happen when I am watching Netflix or video in any other app: It just brings up the OSD. I would prefer to have to actually click the trackpad to make the video position change.

I have tried disabling "Siri expert mode" but the same thing happens.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Siri expert mode needs to be disabled, but that has no effect on live tv.

What you see in “other apps” is what we do in library video playback, on live tv that’s not the case as there is no way to create thumbs and get the preview up.

Thanks. Is there another solution for Live TV available?

When watching Live TV it is really quite frustrating for the live stream to be interrupted just because the remote control was touched.

Can the remote 'touch' be disabled completely? I think it would be much better to just have the remote respond to a click.

Something we can look into, but it would be a a setting.

We will discuss internally

That would be great - thank you.

I currently have a big sticker on my siri remote to avoid anyone picking it up the wrong way but it still happens regularly and annoys everyone watching :)

Would it be possible to document the expected remote behaviour in the wiki and how it is different for recorded&live TV vs. other media?

We really struggle with the controls being inconsistent in different sections of the app.

Thanks

They are only different in the live tv for the reasons I explained in my previous post.

We will try to document It on wiki in future

Thanks.

Maybe I missed something but it seems like I have the same problems watching a recorded TV show too... I just tried to confirm... I start playing a recording; pick up the remote from the wrong side; playback jumps back or forward.

Whereas, if I'm watching a downloaded TV show and do the same thing then only the "Seeking" overlay at the bottom of the screen pops up but playback is not interrupted.

This inconsistency seems unnecessary but again, maybe I misunderstood?

It seems so :)

The remote picks up the touch on the edges and interprets it as ff/rev ... that is the intended behaviour.

We have gone over this many times in past and this is what it was decided on. We might add the setting to disable it or rework it so it picks up the input on touch + click but it has to be discussed with the rest of the Live tv users.

@Ted377 and @Montoya ^^^ thoughts?

Hmmm, I have no problems with that.

But maybe it's because I have the Remote Loop on my Siri.
So I can no longer get it wrong.

Incidentally, I've gotten so used to the Siri Remote that I can operate it blindly.

Perhaps the function can be designed so that the touch function can be switched off and the touchpad only responds to a click.
Then, however, the click would have to be expanded to the left, right, up and down.

You are again asked @amet and @davilla 🤷🏼‍♂️
