Hello everyone !
I use MrMc because it's the only one that can play all my content without burning my CPU !
But I miss a very nice feature I had on my zidoo box : adjust subtitle position.
I'm a french trying to learn english so I watch films and series in VOSTE.
Many movies are 21/9 and TV 16/9, so there is two big black stripes on top/bottom of the screen.
And it was very nice on the zidoo to be able to display subtitles in the black stripe : so always perfectly clear (white on black), and no more subtitle wasting the picture.
In the subtitle menu, there was an item "position" that can be adjusted from negative to positive values to put subtitle were we want to.
Any chance to see that coming on MrMc ?
Thanks !!!

Re: adjust subtitle position
Try settings -> system -> video output-> video calibration
In there you will find 4 settings, overscan(left right), subtitles and pixel.
You can move the position of the subtitles in there, this is only valid for text based subs.

Re: adjust subtitle position
Hello,
thanks for your answer.
most of my mkv files have subtitle muxed, I just tried a few and it don't work...
maybe I can find somewhere a soft to extract and convert to text based subs ?
and it was not very convenient to go in the settings, then return to movie to try position, then back to settings etc...
Is there a chance to get this option directly in subtitle menu available in the movie menu ? and another way to make work for any subtitle ?
anyway, thank you for your work !

Re: adjust subtitle position
If the subs are text based it works for sure since we decide where to render them.
On image based subs, that’s determined by the subtitles and we have no control over it. Muxed subs can be text(sub or srt) or image based (idx/sub). Use mediainfo on a file to see what’s in it.
You can get to the same calibration menu while playing a movie and going to video settings. “select” to bring out OSD then down arrow to bring settings bar

Re: adjust subtitle position
SubtitleEdit software is able to extract image based subtitles and you can use it to OCR the images into text, which you can then re-import with mkvmerge.turbalf wrote: 16 Apr 2020, 21:03 maybe I can find somewhere a soft to extract and convert to text based subs ?
It is, however, a bit faffy....

Re: adjust subtitle position
We have 2 subtitle download services which will download text based subs, that should be a good starting point.

Re: adjust subtitle position
Hello,
Thanks for your answers !
Sometimes even with text subtitle, position don't change with calibration.
But I tried the subtitle download service and after a few tries, most of the time I find some subtitle directly in the black stripe, so it works one way or another !
The android boxes that can move even non-text based subtitle, they can because of a different hardware ?
Thanks
