Can't add share using libdsm

Post by jabohn »

Version 1.3 still doesn't work for me, same as version 1.2 - it sees my SMBshare but constantly asks for a username and password. No matter what I put in, it brings me back to the username and password.

Switching back to SMBUp and turning libdsm still works and I never have to enter a username and password.

UPDATE: hmmm, it might not have worked because on my iMac I needed to click the Option button and enable the feature that "stores the password in a less secure manner". I can now see the folders within my SMB share. However I wonder why I have to use this less secure manner? It also appears to share a ton of other things was well such as my user folder, hard drives etc. as well as the folder I shared.

Lets start from the basics. Here, I do not have SMBup installed

under OSX
sharing settings, file sharing.
- share files and folders using SMB (checked)
- Windows File Sharing, (my user account, checked)

shared folders have my user account (read/write)

The line bolded is something that I didn't have active (when I was testing video sharing to Apple TV 4 with another app months ago) and it wouldn't work. So, jabohn: Make sure under Options, your user name is there and checked.

Thanks guys, I figured out that option a bit later and updated my original post. I just find it curious that the less secure option has to be enabled which also opened everything up for sharing and not just the folder I chose.

"stores the password in a less secure manner", where is this option in sharing prefs ? Not seeing it.

In Sharing, click the Options button. Here is a screenshot of the options (from Apple, not from me). The lower checkbox needs to be enabled in order for SMB to work with MrMC, however the text warns that it's less secure:

I'll be going back to SMBUp in the meantime anyway because there is indeed a freezing and crashing issue with paused videos.

v1.3 should have fixed all those issues.

This is unfortunate to hear. Glad I didn't even test it this time. I'm not sure how davilla gets this working (in a Mac environment). Must have something else going on in terms of set-up, not just standard Mac OSX.

Yes it's unfortunate but even so it can be avoided.... just don't leave the TV with a video paused for too long. I don't know for how long, but when it happened to me it was about 20 minutes and the AppleTV plus the TV itself had gone to sleep.

you know the time until sleep can be changed in tvOS settings ? On mine, screensaver is 5 min, sleep is one hour.
