MrMC no longer filling screen with video after upgrade

Hello,
Long time XBMP/XBMC/Kodi user who recently made the switch to MrMC on my FireTV (1st gen)... loving the simplification of it, REALLY feels like a return to the good ol' days of the OG xbox.. but I digress.
Last night I sat down to watch some videos, and to my surprise MrMC shows the "first time startup" message, I suspect indicating a recent app update.
All was well, the GUI looked perfectly fine, until I started playing a video. At this point, I realized that the video would only fill the top left perhaps 2/3rds of the screen. Again, I made no changes to my configuration & the GUI fills the screen properly (even the menu overlay during video playback).
This is the full FireTV (not a stick) first gen, on reproducing the issue I noted that the last update of MrMC was today (aug 1st) and listed as ver 2.4.
If somehow I'm the first person reporting this issue, I'll gladly provide images & debug logs or any other info that might prove helpful.
Is this a known issue, are there any quick fixes or workarounds I can try?
