Can't browse folders on USB disk share (Synology)

Hi guys,

I stream my videos from a Synology NAS (running DSM 7), from a share on the internal HD (/volume1/videos) using NFS.

Recently, I have added a USB disk (exFAT). In Control Panel -> Shared Folder I see the USB disk listed as usbshare1-2.

I have configured Permissions for usbshare1-2 as follows:
Admin -> Read/Write=True

I have configured the NFS Permissions for usbshare1-2 as follows:

IP: 192.168.1.0/24 (* gives the same result)
Privilege: Read/Write
Squash: Map all users to admin
Security: sys
Enable async: True
Allow connections from non-privileged ports: True
Allow users to access mounted subfolders: True

Note: these are the exact same settings as for the share videos (internal HD).

When I browse NFS locations within MrMC I see:
192.168.1.142 (IP of Synology NAS)

When I click on the IP I see:
/VOLUME1/VIDEOS
/VOLUMEUSB1/USBSHARE1-2

When I click on /VOLUME1/VIDEOS I see its subfolders.
However, when I click on /VOLUMEUSB1/USBSHARE1-2 nothing happens. Looking in the log I see it is a permissions issue.

ERROR: NFS: Failed to mount nfs share: /volumeUSB1/usbshare1-2 (mount/mnt call failed with "RPC error: Mount failed with error MNT3ERR_ACCES(13) Permission denied(13)")
ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting nfs://192.168.1.142/volumeUSB1/usbshare1-2/
ERROR: CGUIDialogFileBrowser::GetDirectory(nfs://192.168.1.142/volumeUSB1/usbshare1-2/) failed

I have uploaded the log: BCPZ6.LOG

Can you help? Thanks in advance!

It does look like a server permission issue, can you rename that folder to exclude “-“ ?

I did rename the share name, but its location remains /volumeUSB1/usbshare1-2. Synology has created 2 partitions for this USB disk: usbshare1-1 (vfat) and usbshare1-2 (exfat). I cannot change these partition names,

/volumeUSB1/usbshare1-2 is what I see in MrMC if I browse NFS locations, even though I renamed the share name.

I formatted the disk within Synology DSM. Now the disk has only 1 (exfat) partition: /volumeUSB1/usbshare. The share name is usbshare1. So the hyphen is gone. This mount path is also now what MrMC shows. But still it cannot drill down to the folders on that share :? Even though I recreated a NFS rule on the share usbshare1 as before:

IP: 192.168.1.0/24
Privilege: Read/Write
Squash: Map all users to admin
Security: sys
Enable async: True
Allow connections from non-privileged ports: True
Allow users to access mounted subfolders: True

I uploaded a new log: 6ZY09.LOG

Can you see any other folders on that server using NFS? If yes, then the issue is with the server permissions.

It was not the permissions, because I was sure this was configured correctly. I formatted the disk again in DSM, now with format ext4. And now it works! Now I can add the share as a location in MrMC. WTF...

I would have preferred exFAT, but at least now I can use the disk :)
