Looks like the Plex folks are beta testing a version that plays the new DV within MKV supported standard..

Can anyone talk about the status for MrMC support in this area?

Plex for Android 8.8 with support for Dolby Vision with MKV is out of beta and works!

I still prefer to use MRMC for non Dolby Vision titles in MKV format.

Would be nice to here if MRMC was making an effort to support this as well.

No it’s not :)

We are still here, working hard... but nothing to report on the topic you are interested in.

You might want to consider supporting Dolby Vision in the Nvidia Shield TV. Dolby Vision is absolutely stunning, The Nvidia Shield TV is the only device that supports Dolby Vision profile 7 which is what is found on UHD Bluray disks. Plex support is a little buggy at the moment, but it works. Besides Plex, there is no other media playing application at the moment that supports playing Dolby Vision from MKV files. It would be a prudent business decision.

We are looking into what it would take to do that...

Dolby Vision support for MKV files on Nvidia Shield would definitely be a unique selling point for MrMC!

Kodi developers have already stated that it will probably not make it into Kodi 19 because it requires an update to the ffmpeg core. And the ffmpeg core needs to be updated first by the developers:

Hope the MrMC developers can make some magic happen :)

Currently using the ExoPlayer solution, but it's not ideal. Also tried the Plex route, but Plex seems to have slight audio sync issues and their Android TV client does not have an audio offset option.

(And yes, I know this is my first post here, but rest assured I have purchased MrMC already ;))

Nope, it is in Kodi 19, and people are testing it..

"Playback
Software decoding of AV1;subtitle improvements with new dark grey colour and selectable opacity; ability to provide a subtitle URI (URL, local file, etc.); static HDR10 and dynamic Dolby Vision HDR support (platform- and client-dependent). "
