Need a few questions answered before I buy one

I have a hard time figuring out how things work. I don’t understand all this tech. My media mostly run dts-HD audio. I know I can’t passthrough it but I read this over at the Kodi forum:
Not so much ugly, but no MrMC - Passthrough (bitstreaming) audio works at all. (Apple tvOS limitation)
AC3, DTS, Dolby TrueHD & DTS-MA or HRA audio is decoded to multichannel 24bit 48kHz LPCM, for no loss in audio quality.
No passthrough means No Bluray Rip quality Dolby Atmos or DTS:x
->> the Dolby True HD or DTS-MA HD audio tracks will be losslessly decoded instead.

Does that mean I won’t loose any quality when playing media with dts-HD?

no quality is lost but you do lose Atmos or DTS:X metadata from lossless codecs. atmos from DD+ does work. this is the same for other apps on tvOS as well.

I got a great deal on a Apple TV 4 (60$). Do I just set mrmc audio options to 5.1 and Apple tv4 to dd sound output and it’s done?

MrMC to 5.1, yes. But, you should only set the apple tv 4 to dd sound if your system can't handle multichannel PCM. Otherwise leave it alone at best available.
