Using external NAS and how to access and scan it

Have an external NAS (usb drive) on my network. I can access it fine with ES FILE EXPLORER from my AMAZON FIRE STICK. Can play saved movie files (MP4 & MKV) . The problem is I have minimal knowledge on how to get my MrMC to scan the drive and add the video files. The network address for the NAS is also DLNA for the media. Am reading I guess I need to get the exact address and password and directory, due to android on the firestick using an older version of networking protocol? Has anyone done this before to make it work? Thanks.

ES FILE EXPLORER and even VLC player can just use the network as is and SAMBA and DLNA to see the files and play them. Why does MrMC need more in the setup?

set it up just like VLC player/SMB, it uses libdsm as a SMB client.
