So I want to use my ATV to play MKV's off a drive connected to my router.

I already have two ATV4k's. Other than installing mrmc, is attaching a Synology NAS diskstation the best move? I'm kinda stuck with what drive system to attach to my router to backup mkv files and play them off from different devices.

What sort of router do you have? Some will let you plus a usb HDD directly to it.

If that's not possible the Synology NASs are very good, not the cheapest solution though.
