Unfortunately we can’t reproduce this, occasionally we get the report that it’s happening but no way for us to trigger the issue.

Have you tried removing all thumbs and recreating them?

Is it possible to log anything which might help finding the root cause?
Probably during a complete reinstall?

Fixed it!

It seemed to be an EMBY scraping issue. The fetching of the pictures (series) seemed to work, but didn't work. Emby didn't find any posters on TVDB although available on the TVDB homepage. Even giving the unique ID didn't help.... What finally worked was activating all other available scrapers. Then the season posters were found and downloaded and thus now also available on MRMC start page.

So for all you out there with this kind of issue, please check in your EMBY library settings to activate ALL scrapers available (even might need to install additional plugins). Then rescan library with "replace metadata" checkbox activated.

The problem occurs for me when there is no season poster art available from Emby. Would it be possible in mrmc to just use the show poster instead of the season poster? Or at least the option to do this?
