I think perhaps we were at crossed purposes over the meaning of "live tv". I think you mean it to include actual live broadcast tv watching and watching recorded tv from disk i.e. the entire "TV" section inside the top level menu is called "Live TV" so I will stick with that definition.
Ideally I would like the Live TV seeking controls to be as consistent as possible with library video playback because it is quite confusing to have actions doing different things when watching content in different sections of the app.
Seeking back and forward does not use a thumb/preview in MrMC library video playback or Netflix etc. so no thuthumb/preview is not a problem, indeed it's normal and expected unless the playback is paused. But in just about every other video context except Live TV, seeking is achieved by click-pressing the left or right side of the touchpad not just touching it.
Hopefully others will agree that consistency* is important but if I'm outnumbered then I guess that's life! Cheers

Re: Siri Remote - how to make it work like native tvOS?
Yes, with Live TV I mean satellite TV or cable TV. I find the operation as it is okay.
It is just Live TV and much more complex than simply playing a video on Netflix, Amazon and co.
Especially since you have to control as many functions as possible using as few buttons as possible.
However, I would not care if there was an attitude of how I would like to serve this or that.
If the operation is now completely changed, it would be difficult for me again, since I have been using Live TV for years as it is.

I generally don’t use MrMC for live tv because the controls aren’t the same as other media sections and it’s just too frustrating. I wish you could make the remote work consistently across everything.

We can’t do the scrub, like the library playback istimstephens24 wrote: 06 Jun 2020, 13:54 I generally don’t use MrMC for live tv because the controls aren’t the same as other media sections and it’s just too frustrating. I wish you could make the remote work consistently across everything.

But this request is nothing to do with scrubbing... Sorry if I've not made that clear but this is request is solely about seeking, not scrubbing. It is seeking that is inconsistent between LiveTV and library playback.
- seek in library playback you need to click-press the left / right side of the siri remote (good, same as netflix etc.)
- seek in LiveTV you only need to lightly touch the left / right side of the siri remote (unlike anything else -bad UX)

I agree with you that it should be consistent, I wonder how many users will complain if we change it.
I would not want to add another setting as that adds to complexity of the app setup.

Could you maybe retain the current Inconsistent seeking controls in “expert” mode but make it consistent in “tvOS native” mode?
Then there is no new setting required

Re: Siri Remote - how to make it work like native tvOS? (for Live/Recorded TV)
I am glad to see this option in the new 3.9.8 release. I also do use a lot LiveTV (with Simple IPTV Plugin and VNSI) and you only need to lightly touch the left / right side and zap/switch to another channel. Which can be really frustrating.
Code: Select all

Thanks very much for fixing this. I only just realised that it's fixed when I thought I hadn't seen the problem for a while. That's greatly appreciated!
