tvOS testing 2.8.1 (161208.1909)

Post by davilla » 02 Dec 2016, 00:35

Please use this ONLY if you have downloaded 2.8.1 (161208.1909) , version number can be seen in TestFlight app

please avoid posting "I would love to test" posts, lets keep this for testing only.

rgb(low), rgb(high) -> setting -> system -> video -> rgb limited. Unchecked is full range. Still thinking about which way to default it.

-VTB Full Range Video Levels

changes since 2.8.1 (161130.1410)
- filmon PVR addon

changes since 2.8.1 (161202.1549)
- bring back librtmp for FilmOn pvr

changes since 2.8.1 (161213.1955)
- vtb color range tweaks

changes since 2.8.1 (161217.1256)
- more vtb color range tweaks
- music playback when screensaver pops
- fixed odd smb crash when returning from bouncing out to home

Tested full range video levels with patterns.

Happy to report that all is working great. Full range levels working with VTB acceleration.

I think you should leave option unchecked for 16-235, as is the case with most Kodi clients.
ie. Let user use AppleTV's own RGB high/low preference settings, as that's what most users would do when
Initially setting up their AppleTV's. (Even before installing your most excellent software)

Great looking full range video combined with silky smooth accelerated playback.
As The Rocketeer once said 'I like it!'

Speaking of full range video.
Are we going to see the same fix applied to the iOS MrMC Touch version?

The reason I ask, is that I discovered my iPhone 7 Plus supports full range video, which really surprised me, so
would be cool to have full range video and VTB working together.

Am happy to TestFlight MrMC Touch (which I purchased) if you hook me up
The reason I could not test MrMC Touch before, is that I only had iPad 3 which is 32bit. :(

Another interesting thing with MrMC Touch and the new iPhone, is that AirPlay Mirroring the entire display works
really well, if you have fast MIMO wifi.
Is hard case mirroring MrMC touch in 1080p to AppleTV4. (Makes it like some super duper power remote)

Sorry for cross posting, but thought this was relevant to the topic.

my TV doesn't support full range but I'm still testing.

If I put the apple tv to RGB low then darks are too dark with full range on or off in MrMC

So, I put it back to ycbcr and set MrMC to limited range and darks are too bright.

The settings to make thing look right for me are ycbcr and full range in MrMC.

But this doesn't seem to make any sense. What gives? :?:

These changes also will apply to the MrMC/iOS. We will work on getting a testflight for 2.8.1 iOS up.

So playing a movie with the Apple TV video setting to Auto (YCbCr) and all the other apps on the Apple TV (for example the Movies app with a purchased iTunes movie) the black bars are black. Playing the same movie in MrMC the black bars are grey, regardless of limited or full setting. Anyone else seeing it or should I do the log thing?

Normal black bars you get when you're watching a 2.40:1 video on a 1.78:1 screen.
