Hello Team,
Thanks for MrMc software.
I requiere your help to try to solve a small problem regarding MrMc configuration.
My Configuration is the follow:
- TV: Samsung
- Sound bar: Samsung HW-J250 (ref: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00VV7 ... UTF8&psc=1)
- Connexion between both: Optical
- MrMc installation: NVidia Shield (2015)
My Problem:
When I watch the videos via "MrMc", it is very difficult to hear the dialogue, for cons, the special effects, music, works perfectly.
As a result, I spend my time playing with my remote control to adapt the sound to the events of the video.
I tested several type of video, 2 channels, 5.1 channels, DTS, AC3, AAC, the problems is similar.
So I think this behavior is more related to the configuration of MrMc than source files.
MrMc configuration settings (Settings > System > Audio Output)
- Number of Channels: 5.1
- Output configuration: Optimized
- Stereo upmix: enable
- Maintain original volume on downmix: enable
- Boost center channel when Downmixing: 0 dB
- Resample quality: High
- Threshold for pitch correction: 2
- keep audio device alive: 1 minute
- Level of inaudible silence: Default
- Support of 8 cannels : disable
- Play GUI sound: Only when playback stopped
- Enable passthrough: disable
- The others option are greyed
I hope to find a solution to this behavior, please do not hesitate to ask me for more information
Best regards,
LEFBE

Re: MrMc - Audio configuration help
Thanks for raising that point.
"Boost center channel when Downmixing" is already doing what you want when going from multichannel to stereo.
Probably not what you want, but if you set your channel setup to 2.0, disable passthrough, and tweak this parameter, the voices can be made louder coming from a multichannel source (but the output will be stereo).
We'll look into expanding this capability.

Hello koying,
Thanks for this tips !
Thank you for this tip that works perfectly.
According to you, is it possible to play with the parameter "Boost center channel when Downmixing" and leaving in 5.1?

Re: MrMc - Audio configuration help
Probably not, currently. As it makes mucho sense, that's something I'll look into.
EDIT: Actually, it should work if you enable passthrough, transcode and *only* AC3.
Then all non-ac3 multi-channel will be transcoded to ac3, and voices *should* be boosted as well.
The silly thing is that if your source is ac3, no transcoding will happen, and then no boosting either

Re: MrMc - Audio configuration help
Difficult choice I need to make.
Most of my sources are AC3 or 5.1 multi canal

Re: MrMc - Audio configuration help
That's a minor fix, that can be included in 3.7 (if my assumptions are actually correct )
EDIT: Note that it should work for 5.1 MC.
To summarize:
Channels: 2
Passtrough: enabled
Formats: *only* ac3
Transcode: on
Boost: Whatever you like
Please confirm it works for 5.1 MC

Hello koying,
I've made some test:
No work
Channels: 2
Passtrough: enabled
Formats: *only* ac3
Transcode: on
Result: No sound
----
Channels: 2.1
Passtrough: enabled
Formats: *only* ac3
Transcode: on
Result: No sound
----
Channels: 5.1
Passtrough: enabled
Formats: *only* ac3
Transcode: on
Result: No sound
----
Work
Channels: 2
Boost : 5dB
Result: Works
Channels: 5.1
Boost : 5dB
Passthrough : Enable
IEC packet: enable
Result: Works (but DTS give the original behavior - music, effect are perfect but voicies not)

Re: MrMc - Audio configuration help
Could specify the source format for each of your tests, please (and the boost value if different than 0 for the "not working")
EDIT: I'm assuming your soundbar supports AC3 passthrough, here, btw, if not obvious
